An oil and gas worker threatened police with his “friends in the IRA” after a Christmas Eve whisky session turned sour.
Richard Adam, 33, told officers he would “shoot their jaws off” after they were called to remove him from a property in Friockheim in Angus on Christmas Eve 2021.
Adam told Forfar Sheriff Court, through his solicitor, he was ashamed of his actions and had travelled a 1,000 mile round-trip to attend his hearing.
Depute fiscal Matthew Kerr told the court: “He was incredibly intoxicated.
“Police arrived at the scene.
“He threatened to ‘shoot (their) faces off with (his) twelve gauge shotgun.
“He further threatened to blow up Arbroath police station.
“He said ‘I have got friends in the IRA who will blow-up the station’.
“He then offered to pay them £50,000 if they would ‘let him out’.”
‘Respect for court’
Defence solicitor Billy Rennie, in mitigation for Adam, said: “He had been drinking whisky on Christmas Eve with his father.
“He had very clearly drunk way too much.
“He is deeply ashamed of his actions.
“He works in the oil industry.
“He has flown up for this case – he felt because of the nature of the complaint he would show respect by appearing in court here today.”
Sheriff Jillian Martin-Brown fined Adam, of Ashlett Court, Southampton, £200 after he admitted behaving in a threatening and abusive manner towards police officers at Kinnaird Crescent.
