A sexual predator has been jailed for raping a teenager after a night out in Fife as pandemic lockdown restrictions eased.
Mustafizur Rahman,44, attacked the girl in the rear of his car after she thought she was getting into a taxi in Kelty.
She was out drinking on the first day after lockdown, having turned 18 during the restrictions.
Rahman had denied raping the teenager but was found guilty after a trial.
He had claimed the girl – a complete stranger – got into the back seat and took off her trousers and pants and invited him to have sex.
However, the girl told the High Court in Edinburgh she had been drinking and could remember him pulling down her trousers as she told him to stop.
Police scoured CCTV to piece together the events of July 6 2020 and appealed for dashcam footage.
They began to trace owners of dark-coloured Vauxhall Vectras – a vehicle seen in footage on Keltyhill Avenue, where the attack happened.
Rahman’s Vectra had a tow bar, which was a significant feature from CCTV film and it was seen in a street in Dunfermline.
He gave officers a statement and provided a DNA sample.
Sentencing next month
The court heard the teenager was seen leaving a bar in Kelty with others, before walking on her own in the town’s Main Street.
A detective who viewed the footage said she appeared to be “zigzagging” across the footpath before entering the car.
After the sex attack, she made her way to a house in a hysterical state, seeking help.
A couple found her crying and very distressed.
Rahman, of Ballingry Crescent, Ballingry, was placed on the Sex Offenders Register and remanded in custody for the preparation of a background report before sentencing next month.
