A comedian and television star has told a court how he discovered a drunken driver near his home after hearing her post-crash screams.
Jim Smith told a trial he was alerted to the incident when he heard a woman in distress and discovered Annette Stobbs near the scene of an accident.
Stobbs told Mr Smith – who starred in BBC TV show The Farm and performs as the Stand Up Farmer – her husband had been injured and was still in the vehicle.
Stobbs, who was driving a £40,000 Land Rover Discovery with the personal registration S10BBS, was found to have been driving while she was twice the alcohol limit (44/22 mics).
She was fined £450 and banned from driving for 12 months.
Crashed neighbour
Mr Smith, a comedy writer and full-time beef and sheep farmer, was giving evidence for the Crown in a trial at Perth Sheriff Court.
He told the court he had heard what turned out to be a neighbour screaming and he went over to find out what had happened.
He said he assisted at the scene after realising there had been a car crash.
Stobbs, 61, from Whins of Fordie, Perthshire, was found guilty of drink driving on an unclassified road near her home on October 29 last year.
She was not further charged in relation to the crash on the road between Snaigow and Whins of Fordie road, near the village of Caputh.
