Three children were found within a faeces-strewn Kirkcaldy home when police accidentally stumbled on it after witnessing an apparent drug deal.
Officers entering Richard King’s property found it infested with flies with an unidentifiable black ooze in the fridge and rotting food on the counter tops.
The bath was being used for storage and appeared not to have been used for some time.
Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court heard police were in the area on an unrelated matter when they noticed a suspicious exchange at the door of King’s property.
‘Hazardous’ kitchen
Fiscal depute Douglas Thomson said: “The internal stairs leading from the main door and hallway were covered in faeces, believed to be dog faeces.
“On going to the top of the stairs PC Salmond and Douglas were immediately surrounded by flies.
“The room on the left was the bathroom and extremely dirty with the toilet being full of faeces which had not been flushed away and the bath appeared to be used for storage for household items and clearly had not been used for some time.
“The kitchen was hazardous – items of rotten food on the worktops and within the sink, piles of rubbish and flies on the worktop and minimal food in the cupboards.
“Within the fridge officers were overcome with the smell.
“The fridge was also empty except of a puddle of black liquid leaking along the bottom.
“It was unknown what this was or what it had been.”
Sentence deferred
Also within the property was almost 1kg of cannabis, valued at up to £7,000, and up to £1,500 of cocaine.
The court heard this was within reach of three children, all under the age of 10, who were within the house at the time.
King’s solicitor said while the 30-year-old was a heavy user of cannabis, he was not a habitual user of cocaine.
King admitted wilfully neglecting children at his home in Kirkcaldy on November 27 2020.
He also admitted being in possession of cocaine and being concerned in the supply of cannabis.
Sentence was deferred until next month for reports.
