Emergency services had to close roads in Arbroath after a man barricaded himself in a room in his flat and began making threats.
Crews spent around four hours at Keptie Road on November 20 when Ryan Gilmartin kicked off.
The 28-year-old admitted behaving aggressively towards his partner and shouted, swore and made threats of violence towards her.
He punched walls and threw items around, before engaging in a struggle with the woman and seizing her by the neck.
Gilmartin continued to behave in a threatening manner by claiming he was in possession of weapons and would use them to harm himself or others.
He barricaded himself in a room in the flat and made more threats towards anyone who entered.
Numerous emergency services vehicles were stationed outside the flat for approximately four hours and local roads were closed.
At Forfar Sheriff Court, Sheriff Francis Gill ordered a social work report and restriction of liberty order assessment.
Gilmartin will return to be sentenced on January 12.
Brute jailed

Thief foiled
A would-be thief who wandered into a stranger’s home and was caught lurking in the hallway has escaped punishment.
Russell Bell fled after being confronted by the homeowner.
He later told police he was “looking for a mate” and “trying to score hash”.
The 52-year-old appeared at Perth Sheriff Court for sentencing, having previously admitted being at a Tulloch Road property on October 28 last year, with intent to steal.
Bell, of Culliven Court, was admonished by Sheriff Gillian Wade after reports showed he had made “remarkable” improvements.
Woman with abuse videos
Samantha Clayfield, 36, from Fife was found to have 15 sick child abuse videos on her phone. A court heard 12 of the videos were of the most graphic kind.
Racist outburst at surgery
A Montrose woman has been fitted with an electronic tag after a racist outburst at a doctor.
Sarah Platt was sentenced at Forfar Sheriff Court after admitting acting in a threatening or abusive manner.
Platt created a commotion at the Annat Bank Practice at Montrose’s Links Health Centre at around 10am on September 8.
The mum of four shouted “f***ing useless P*ki b*****d” as she left.
The remark was not in earshot of the doctor who she had consulted with but colleagues who heard it were concerned and called police.
Solicitor Nick Markowski said she is not welcome back at the practice.
Sheriff Krista Johnston told Platt: “You’re 41 years of age, you should know better than behave in this way.”
Unemployed Platt, of Glenisla Road, was placed on a 7pm to 7am restriction of liberty order for four months.
Gun thief
An Angus thief stole an arsenal of firearms from the car of a pair of rabbit hunters while they slept in a nearby hotel. Shaun Conway, 22, admitted plundering guns and ammo from the car Kirriemuir.
Taxi driver cleared
A Perth taxi driver has been cleared of causing a disturbance at his mother-in-law’s house.
Alasdair Fleming went on trial accused of thumping and kicking at the front door of the Bute Drive property in August.
It was alleged he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner, likely to cause fear or alarm.
Perth Sheriff William Wood found him not guilty after evidence from Mr Fleming’s wife, her friend and a neighbour.
Under cross-examination by solicitor David Holmes, his wife admitted she had asked prosecutors not to proceed with the case.
Sheriff Wood told 38-year-old Fleming: “I am not satisfied beyond reasonable doubt that you committed this crime.”
Puppy plea
A plea has been made for people to ensure dog breeders are properly licensed before buying puppies for Christmas. Criminal gangs are making multi-million pounds from the trade in the animals, a report has shown.
