Bar staff locked themselves inside their pub when a teenage thug began battering doors and shouting racist abuse outside.
Ryan Lochrane flew into a rage after being turfed out of The Crown in Blairgowrie town centre.
His evening descended into chaos after he was politely asked to wear a face mask.
The 19-year-old, of Princes Croft, Coupar Angus, appeared at Perth Sheriff Court and admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner at Wellmeadow bar on June 25, last year.
He also admitted assaulting a female police officer.
Fiscal depute Lora Apostolova told the court: “At the time, the bar was following government Covid guidelines in relation to social distancing and face masks.
“At around 9pm, the accused entered the premises and was served a drink.
“He was approached by an employee and was asked to wear a mask or take a seat – which he did.”
Ms Apostolova said: “Soon, the accused’s behaviour changed and he became agitated.
“A group of males in the main bar area informed Mr Sharma that the accused was bothering them.
“He was then told the accused was in the lounge, near the back exit, and an altercation was ongoing with a group of regular customers.
“Mr Sharma approached the accused and intervened.
“He asked the regulars to step back, as he guided the accused by the shoulders outside.
“Mr Sharma told the other customers to go back inside as he could tell the accused was becoming more agitated and unpredictable.”
Racist abuse
Lochrane said to Mr Sharma: “You’ve been sound with me, but they haven’t.”
He then asked for money back for drinks he had bought, but hadn’t finished.
Staff explained that he could only get a refund once CCTV was reviewed. He was asked to come back the next day.
Mr Apostolova said: “The accused’s behaviour got increasingly worse and he began to repeatedly and violently punch the wall outside of the pub.
“The accused wouldn’t listen when he was asked to calm down, so Mr Sharma and another employee went back inside and locked all the doors.”
Lochrane could be heard ranting outside.
He shouted the N-word and described a staff member as “black”.
He then ran to the front door and began kicking it.
“Mr Sharma stepped out and asked the accused to calm down and leave,” said Ms Apostolova.
Lochrane then ran at Mr Sharma, shouting: “Get that f***ing black b****** out of here. They’ve just flung me out.”
He then kicked and punched the pub’s doors and windows.
Police search
Police were called, but Lochrane had left the scene by the time officers arrived.
A search of the Wellmeadow area was carried out and Lochrane was traced.
He became hostile to officers, told them “f*** you” and spat at a female officer.
He shouted “English b****” and made violent threats, the fiscal depute said.
Sheriff Euan Duthie deferred sentence for background reports.
