A cyclist was left with a broken arm after being was struck by a careless driver at a Fife roundabout.

Angela Irvine admitted driving without due care and attention when she caused the crash at Cairneyhill Roundabout on January 30.

Irvine entered the A985 roundabout without keeping a proper lookout and cyclist Laurynas Petriunas rode into the back of her car.

She was understood to have been travelling at around 20mph at the point of contact.

Dunfermline Sheriff Court heard Mr Petriunas came off the bike and Irvine stopped and tended to him.

He was taken by ambulance to hospital with a broken arm and had to wear a cast for a month and a half.

66-year-old Irvine, of Deanfield Crescent in Bo’ness/Borrowstounness, was fined £640 and given six penalty points.

Perthshire rambler

A “rambling” man was caught driving through the Perthshire countryside while high on a cocktail of drugs.

Alan Marshall believes he may have been spiked on the night he was pulled over in the Tibbermore area.

The 43-year-old appeared at Perth Sheriff Court and admitted driving down an unclassified road on August 27 2020, while unfit through drink or drugs.

Fiscal depute David Currie said Marshall was reported to police by a member of the public who was concerned about his driving.

Marshall was pulled over. “The accused was described as having a pale complexion, constricted pupils, had slurred speech and was rambling,” said the fiscal depute.

Marshall was later found to have “several” substances in his system.

Solicitor David Holmes, defending, said: “There is a suggestion that my client had been given something he wasn’t aware of that evening.

“But clearly he should not have been driving.”

Sheriff Grant McCulloch said: “There is no real excuse being offered here.”

Marshall, of Nimmo Place, was disqualified for 14 months and fined £380.

Protester acquitted

The aristocrat granddaughter of a Perthshire estate owner has been acquitted of conspiring to damage property during a pro-Palestinian protest in central London.

Doone Stormonth-Darling, 28, was one of five to face allegations of spraying red paint at the office door of Elbit Systems, Israel’s largest arms manufacturer.

It was alleged activists used fire extinguishers filled with paint to damage the entrance to the Kingsway building in October 2020.

After a seven-day trial at Southwark Crown Court, jurors took less than ninety minutes to unanimously acquit all five.

The court had heard water-soluble paint had been used to create a “river of blood” – a symbolic act to “represent the blood of the Palestinian people” – which the accused group knew would wash away.

In June this year, the Elbit site in Holborn closed permanently after being subject to routine protests.

Anthony Bardos, 58, Flora Thomas, 28, Joley Thomas, 31, and Jocelyn Cooney, 27 also denied the charges.

Stormonth-Darling said she had worked in 2016 in “the jungle” refugee camp in Calais and explained she met a refugee in her late twenties who came from Gaza.

She took part in the protest to raise awareness about Elbit-made drone missiles being used by Israeli forces.

Stormonth-Darling’s family resides at an estate near Blairgowrie at which her 21st birthday party was held, featuring in Tatler magazine.
