An armed predator who brutalised a teenage boy during sex attacks was jailed for 10 years.
Colin Brown took part in assaults on his victim with an accomplice.
On one occasion, he produced a knife and threatened the teenager during a solo attack.
The sexual assaults were committed between January 2004 and January 2006 at a house in Dundee and began when the child was aged 13.
Prison only option – judge
Lord Braid told 52-year-old Brown: “The evidence showed you manipulated a situation whereby you had access to him in order that you were able to abuse him.”
He pointed out that under current laws the offences would be classified as rapes against the victim.
The judge said a victim impact statement had described the lasting effects of the sex crimes and added: “Unsurprisingly he has suffered physically, emotionally and psychologically.”
He told Brown at the High Court in Edinburgh: “As you must appreciate the gravity of the offending is such that only a significant custodial sentence is appropriate.”
Lord Braid said that because of the nature of the offending and terms of reports on Brown he was satisfied normal conditions of release would be insufficient to protect the public from serious harm.
He ordered that Brown be under supervision for a further four-year period.
Previous offending
The court heard Brown, from Dundee, was previously jailed in 2014 for nine years and given a further three-year extension term for sex crimes against girls.
Lord Braid said on the evidence Brown began preying on the boy after his other victims were no longer available to him.
The court was told unemployed Brown, who had been living in homeless accommodation, was released from the previous sentence for a time but was returned to jail.
Defence solicitor advocate Kris Gilmartin said: “In terms of mitigation I am very limited in what I can say. He denies the offences.”
He said: “Reports confirm that he operates on the lower end of the normal range for IQ.
“He had educational difficulties at school.”
Brown, who followed the sentencing via a video link to prison, was told he would be placed on the Sex Offenders Register for an indefinite period.
