A man has appeared in court accused of brothel-keeping.
Octave George Dimitru faces a charge of allowing premises in Fife to be used for prostitution and profiting from it.
The 26-year-old also faces a charge of assault with intent to rape.
Dimitru, of Coventry, was fully committed for trial and released on bail.
Director no-show
Dundee United director Tony Asghar has been ordered to court to be sentenced for speeding. He pled guilty by letter at the Justice of the Peace court to driving at 45mph in a 30mph zone in Fife.
Drink-drive was ‘stupid mistake’
A Fife drink-driver who was more than five times the legal limit has been banned from the road after telling a court: “It was just a stupid mistake”.
Stewart Bowman was caught after he missed the turning for an on-slip of the A92 and took the turning meant for traffic coming in the opposite direction.
Dunfermline Sheriff Court heard previously police then saw him weaving across the carriageway and forced him to stop.
Officers were then hit by an “overpowering odour” of booze when he opened his car door, the court heard.
The 55-year-old, of Moncur Street in Dunfermline previously admitted driving with excess alcohol (123mics/22).
The offence took place on the A92 eastbound carriageway, between Cowdenbeath and Crossgates, and Dunfermline Road, Crossgates, on November 9 this year.
Bowman, representing himself, said: “It was just a stupid mistake. I have never done it before”.
Sheriff Wyllie Robertson disqualified him from driving for two years and placed him on a 16-month supervision order, under which he must engage with alcohol misuse counselling.
A smashing time
A Perth man who was last week threatened with jail for singing IRA songs in the back of a police van has been ordered to pay Perth and Kinross Council compensation for smashing up his flat.
Ewan Grant went on the rampage at the local authority-owned property in Drummond Crescent.
He broke windows and lobbed broken furniture at police officers during a tense stand-off, Perth Sheriff Court heard.
The 32-year-old, who was last year jailed for biting off part of a man’s nose, admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive way on April 26, last year.
Returning to court for sentencing, just a day after being convicted of shouting sectarian and homophobic abuse at police, Grant was ordered to pay back the council £1,000 for the damage he caused.
He will also have to wear an electronic tag as part of an eight-month restriction of liberty order.
The court previously heard police received multiple 999 calls about Grant’s conduct on April 26 last year.
When officers arrived they saw Grant standing topless at a window.
He used a kitchen pan to smash a living room window and hurled a glass coffee lid in the direction of officers.
When back-up arrived, Grant threw a pan and bits of furniture outside.
Fiscal depute Stuart Hamilton confirmed the incident left taxpayers with a £1,000 repair bill.
Grant will be sentenced for the IRA-related disturbance in the new year.
Stunned by weapon interception
A Fife man was caught buying two stun gun “torches” after they were intercepted by UK Border Force. John Daly, 33, bought the items from online retailer Wish.com. Just over two weeks later, a package was received at Gatwick Airport by airmail on a flight from Taiwan.
Wall crash
A drink-driver who was more than three times the limit crashed into a wall outside a woman’s home in Dunfermline.
Ruairidh Brand, 22, of Daisyfield Terrace in Cardenden, pled guilty to driving with excess alcohol (237mgs/100) in the city’s Townhill Road.
Procurator fiscal depute Catherine Stevenson told Dunfermline Sheriff Court the woman heard a “loud bang” outside her property in the street at around 5:35am on March 20.
“She has observed a vehicle which had just crashed into a wall outside her property, with the accused sitting in the driver seat”.
Passengers had left the scene and made their way towards Townhill.
When police walked after them, Brand, unsteady on his feet and slurring his speech, turned back and identified himself as the driver.
Sentence was deferred until January 25 for background reports and he was disqualified from driving in the interim.
Prison party strop
A violent Perth prisoner threw a strop and destroyed two microwaves after being told a planned party inside the jail had been cancelled. A sheriff interrupted the narration of Alexander Smith‘s crimes to ensure he had heard properly they were throwing a party in the prison. The 36-year-old had another six months added to his sentence.
Spitting granda
A Kinross grandad has been fined for a “disgusting” attack outside a supermarket.
Scottish Power worker William Elliot spat at another man after telling him to stay away from his wife.
The 52-year-old faults manager appeared at Perth Sheriff Court and admitted the assault outside Sainsbury’s, Station Road, Kinross, on June 26 last year.
Fiscal depute Sarah Wilkinson said Elliot approached the complainer outside the store at around 2pm.
“The accused began shouting and told the complainer to stay away from his wife,” she said.
The prosecutor said Elliot walked away but the argument restarted.
“This continued for a few moments before the accused spat on the complainer’s face.”
Elliot, representing himself, told the court his victim had been antagonising him and had been causing problems with his family for some time.
“There was no intention to cause malice at all.
“I was trying to alleviate things but he followed me and was wanting a fist fight.
“For some reason I reacted in this disgusting manner.”
Elliot, of Morlich Place, was fined £300.
Sheriff Derek Reekie told him: “While your reaction may be understandable, it certainly crossed a line.
“This was disgusting, however badly behaved this man was being at the time.”
