A Dundee teenager who claimed he was lost as he rang random doorbells after his 7pm curfew was jailed for the festive season.
Lukeus Walker, 18, breached his strict bail rules when he was pressing buzzers on Candle Lane as he attempted to find his grandmother’s house.
Walker was on a number of curfews designed to prevent him from being outside his home after 7pm.
He was found on Candle Lane in Dundee city centre two days before Christmas and claimed to police he had forgotten which house was his grandmother’s.
The officers had been called by angry residents and they recognised Walker as someone who was not supposed to be outside his Dudhope Court home at that time.
His December 23 arrest – and ongoing remand – means he spent the full festive period in jail.
Annoyed residents
Depute fiscal Lee Corr told Dundee Sheriff Court: “Witnesses described a male pressing multiple buzzers.
“When police arrived, they recognised him.
“A check of the police computer raised the conditions he was on.
“He was arrested and taken into custody.”
Defence solicitor Ross Bennett, in mitigation for Walker, said: “He had been drinking.
“He was in the right close but because he was drunk he pressed all of the buttons.
“He must have annoyed some people because he could not remember which flat to go to.
“He tells me he lost track of time.
“He went to his grandmother’s house to get his phone charged.”
The solicitor added: “He has a name and face likely familiar to your lordship.
“You imposed a community payback order with supervision on him – he has done about half of the hours.”
A month behind bars
Sheriff Alistair Carmichael deferred sentence but remanded Walker until January 25.
He said: “You are running out of time and chances.
“The court has gone out of its way to give you a chance and you have thrown it back in our faces.
“You will be remanded in custody.
“I cannot trust you will stick to the conditions.”
