A Dundee repeat offender spent the first four days of the new year behind bars after stealing a colostomy bag from his partner.
Stewart Heenan, 40, broke into the woman’s home in Pitalpin Court to steal the medical item because he had run out, Dundee Sheriff Court heard.
Heenan, appearing from custody, admitted breaking into and stealing from the flat on January 1.
He was fined for the crime.
Police abuse
Depute fiscal Laura Farquhar told the court: “At around 5pm, the witness and another were with the accused.
“They had a minor disagreement about colostomy bags and needing to get more from Ninewells.
“The complainer noticed Heenan was wearing one of her hooded jumpers.
“When she asked how he got it he told her he had forced the door (to make his way into her flat).
“He was asked to leave.
“The witness contacted police. Officers attended and took statements.
“The accused was later traced and cautioned and charged. In response to police he said ‘f**k you’.”
‘Desperation’
Defence solicitor Ross Donnelly, in mitigation, said: “He does accept he took the colostomy bag.
“He was aware the complainer had some at her home address. He asked if she could provide him with one. It was January 1 and he could not obtain any from the chemist.
“His record is littered with offences at this level. He served a custodial sentence at the start of last year.
“It was his desperation for the colostomy bags which led to this offence being libelled.”
Sheriff John Rafferty fined Heenan, of Craigowan Road, £300.
