A teenager who tried to evade police after he was spotted acting suspiciously in a Perth city centre alleyway was caught with £60 of cocaine.
Daniel Elder, 19, Corsie Avenue, Perth, appeared at the city’s sheriff court to admit obstructing and assaulting police and possessing drugs at St James Square on March 26 last year.
Fiscal depute Sara Wilkinson told the court the two officers had chased Elder after spotting him and another male “in suspicious circumstances” and caught him hiding behind a fence.
Elder legged it again as police prepared to search him, kicking one as he made off.
The court heard he was found with £60 worth of cocaine.
Sheriff William Wood deferred sentence until February 8.
Career criminal jailed
A callous career criminal has been jailed for leaving a “hard-working” family man from Dundee severely disabled because he would not give him a cigarette. Steven Greig battered taxi driver Mark Ward in an unprovoked attack on Coupar Angus Road in April last year.
Bozho
A driver who spent Christmas behind bars after he sped at a marked police car in Arbroath, then ditched his fake registration plates in a bid to escape the law has been sentenced.
Shayne Bozho previously admitted driving dangerously on September 27 and 28 last year.
He used fraudulent number plates, removed them in an attempt to pervert the course of justice and failed to provide police with personal details.
He was previously remanded after he missed a sentencing hearing.
Appearing from HMP Perth by video link, Sheriff Paul Brown banned Bozho for 13 months and ordered him to complete 133 hours of unpaid work.
Bozho, 29, of Little Burton Drive in Tipton, Birmingham, had been driving on Waverley Terrace, Abbotsford Road, Seafield Road and Seaton Road in the dark and with his headlights off.
PC Martin Masson asked him to switch off his engine but Bozho drove straight at a stationary marked police car.
PC Barry Stewart had to drive out of the way to avoid a collision.
Bozho mounted the pavement and drove off at excessive speed.
Solicitor John Boyle previously said Bozho had missed the sentencing hearing as he was unemployed at the time and could not make his way up from Birmingham.
However, he said that since his pleas were tendered, Bozho had gained employment as a delivery driver for a national courier company, despite the dangerous driving conviction carrying a mandatory interim disqualification.
Double crash
A senior teacher at top Perthshire independent school Kilgraston failed to stop after two crashes and refused to let police breathalyse her. Dana Cooper, 46, from Forgandenny, collapsed in front of officers when she stepped out of her Volvo after reversing it into a lamp post – her second accident of the evening.
Beef steak-out
A Kirkcaldy man was caught pinching steaks, worth around £40, from Aldi in Lochee.
Connor Macleod, 26, appeared from custody at Dundee Sheriff Court after being arrested on January 5.
All eight of the pilfered beef packets were recovered by staff before Macleod had the chance to leave the Stack Leisure Park store.
Defence solicitor Jim Laverty said: “These were not M&S steaks.
“There was full recovery.
“He was released from a custodial sentence at the end of last year and was responding well to drug addiction treatment.
“He did however slip up in November.
“He was visiting relatives over Christmas in Dundee but could not get funds to get back to Kirkcaldy.
“He feels Dundee is an area he has negative association with and does not wish to return.”
Sheriff Carmichael deferred sentence until January 26 and transferred the case to Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court.
Baby-shaker jailed
A former soldier from Fife who violently shook a baby boy, leaving him with devastating injuries, has been jailed for seven and a half years. Declan Walton, 31, attacked the 10-week old child at house in Glenrothes on June 5 2020. The boy remains in hospital more than two years later.
High price for first conviction
Lee Campbell, 37, of Lady Nairne Road in Dunfermline expects to lose his job as a tool hire driver after admitting being caught behind the wheel while three and a half times over the limit.
First offender Campbell appeared at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court to admit driving on the A92 with excess alcohol (77mics/22).
Police became aware of him driving behind them between Redhouse Roundabout and Bankhead Roundabout at 2.50am on December 12.
Solicitor David Cranston said his client had held a licence for 15 years without picking up a single fixed penalty notice.
“He was kicking himself for doing something so stupid.”
“He fully expects to be dismissed as a result of this conviction.”
Sheriff Timothy Niven-Smith fined Campbell £640 and banned him for a year.
