Brechin man Stephen Dyer admitted threatening GP surgery staff during a heated phone call.
Dyer, 45, of Caledonian Road, appeared at Forfar Sheriff Court to admit acting in a manner likely to cause fear or alarm.
On May 10 last year, he phoned the Brechin Medical Practice and made abusive remarks and directed threats towards employees.
Solicitor Nick Markowski said: “Mr Dyer does have a record and does have some mental health issues.
“He remains a patient of Brechin Medical Practice.
“He was extremely frustrated when he made the call.”
Sheriff Krista Johnston ordered reports and deferred sentence to March 2.
Bizarre bomb rant
Showjumping instructor John Clenaghan wrote off his Range Rover and then started ranting about a bomb at Ninewells Hospital. Clenaghan crashed his car in rural Angus in August 2021 and then made the bizarre comments after being taken for treatment.
Dirty protest
A Perth man put specialist cleaners at risk with a dirty protest in a Dundee police cell.
Keiran Kennedy, 27, was locked up by officers investigating an alleged assault and disturbance in Perth’s South Inch.
He denied the allegations and expressed his frustration in the middle of cell seven in Dundee’s custody suite.
He appeared at Perth Sheriff Court and admitted culpably and recklessly defecating in the cell on September 6 2022, then smearing his faeces over a door and CCTV camera.
The charge states he caused a health and safety risk to specialist cleaning personnel.
Kennedy, of Stanley Crescent, denied assault and threatening behaviour in South Inch the day before.
He was due to stand trial but the case was abandoned after key witnesses failed to show up for a second time.
Solicitor Linda Clark told the court: “Mr Kennedy was arrested for matters that are no longer before the court.
“He was very unhappy about being detained in custody to appear in court the next morning.
“The allegation against him was not true and he was trying to give names to police officers of people who would be able to explain exactly what happened that day.
“He pled guilty at the first opportunity because he accepts that it is inexcusable no matter what the level of protest or disappointment was.”
Sheriff James MacDonald admonished Kennedy after hearing he had already spent 13 days in custody, explaining he would have likely jailed him for 20 days.
Stalker breached conditions
An Angus stalker who loitered at his ex-partner’s home in the dead of night to spit on her car has been caught tormenting another former girlfriend. Peter Campbell was brought from prison, where he spent the festive period, to Forfar Sheriff Court, where it emerged he had ignored court orders imposed in both cases.
Drunken sexual assault
A creepy Dundonian electronic engineer has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register for sexually assaulting a teenager while he was drunk.
After a trial at Forfar Sheriff Court last year, Christopher Byres, 50, was convicted of the sex attack on the 18-year-old on February 5 last year.
At a property in Kingennie in Angus, Byres attempted to cause her to participate in sexual activity without her consent by rubbing her body over her nightwear and repeatedly seizing her hand and placing it on his naked penis.
Solicitor Hannah Fairbrother said: “He appreciates that alcohol misuse is an aggravating factor, rather than an excuse.
“He appreciates that he consumed far too much. He’s advised me that since then, that sort of consumption of alcohol – he’s not done that again.”
Sheriff Krista Johnston placed Byres, of Alder Drive, on the Register for 18 months and ordered him to complete 150 hours of unpaid work.
She said: “You’re assessed as a low risk.
“Notwithstanding, I remember the trial because I remember the evidence quite clearly and the very apparent upset you created.”
Ban stands
Banned driver George Cooper has failed to get his licence back following his third drink-drive conviction.
The landscape worker was disqualified for three years in November 2020 after he admitted failing to provide a breath sample to police.
The 31-year-old, who also works as a nightclub doorman, was arrested during a romantic weekend break in Perthshire.
A witness saw him picking up his drunken partner when she sat down, sobbing, in the middle of the road.
Cooper was reported to police after he wound down the window of his Jaguar XF and said: “Women and drinking, what are they like?”
Giving evidence at a Perth Sheriff Court hearing on Tuesday, the father-of-five described the offence as the “biggest mistake” he’d ever made.
He said he faces losing both jobs without his licence.
Sheriff Grant McCulloch told Cooper: “This is really all about convenience for you and potentially your employers.
“This was your third such offence and in some ways a three-year ban could be seen as quite generous.”
