An Angus cannabis dealer’s home was raided by police looking for drugs he picked up just hours earlier.
Carnoustie cannabis dealer Cameron Laidlaw appeared at Forfar Sheriff Court, having previously admitted being concerned in the supply of the Class B drug.
26-year-old Laidlaw’s Dundee Street home was raided by police in the morning of September 17 last year.
Fiscal depute Elizabeth Hodgson told the court: “The accused answered the door and allowed access.
“He co-operated with police.
“A systematic search was conducted of the address.”
Got drugs less than nine hours before raid
Police found three mobile phones, herbal substance in two tubs and some bags.
Scales were discovered, along with an empty vacuum bag containing remnants of herbal substance.
In total, police seized £3,655 in cash from the property.
After being tested, the drugs were established to be cannabis.
Laidlaw was taken to Dundee Police headquarters at West Bell Street and interviewed.
He told officers: “I picked it up at 11pm last night.”
The raid happened at 7.50am the next day.
Laidlaw had admitted the offence at a hearing on December 6 and returned to court this week.
However, sentencing was deferred and Laidlaw will return to court on February 16.
Lawyers still had not been able to assess the exact value of the illicit haul.
Costa counterfeit
In 2020, Laidlaw ended up in the dock after used counterfeit cash to buy biscuits in an Angus coffee shop.
Laidlaw went into the Carnoustie branch of national chain Costa in May with a fake £20 Bank of England note.
Staff were suspicious but he was given almost £19 in change after handing over the forgery.
Although the staff member was concerned about a mark on the £20, she accepted the note for the £1.25 transaction.
When a colleague returned soon afterwards, the employee told her fellow worker she thought she had just received counterfeit cash.
