A Dysart man has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register after making a video call to an Instagram influencer in which he carried out a solo sex act.
Hamish Kyme called the London-based woman, despite never having met her.
Kyme claimed to have found the woman’s phone number on the social media platform.
Her quick-thinking friend videoed the call on her own phone and was able to provide evidence to the police.
At Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court Kyme admitted a breach of the Sexual Offences (Scotland) Act 2009.
Called influencer twice
Fiscal depute Lee-Anne Hannan told the court the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is an online influencer.
She said: “There’s a witness who is a friend of the complainer and both were present at the time of the offence.
“Neither knew Mr Kyme in any way.
“At 10pm the complainer was at home with the witness, having dinner when she received a FaceTime call.
“She answered and saw the accused in a video with his genitals in full view and he appeared to be masturbating.”
The shocked victim hung up but Kyme called again.
Ms Hannan continued: “She was hesitant to answer by wanted to know how he had got her number.
“As soon as she did so she and the witness saw the accused continuing to masturbate.
“Asked where he got her number, he said ‘Instagram’.”
He then offered to send the woman money, stating he was soon to be paid.
The woman ended the call and blocked Kyme’s number.
Recorded call to pass to police
Her friend had recorded the screen using her own phone and the information was passed to the Metropolitan Police.
Kyme was arrested almost three months later.
The 24-year-old, of Terrace Street, Dysart, admitted causing the woman to view a sexual image on May 30 last year.
Sentence was deferred for reports and Kyme was placed on the Sex Offenders Register.
