A Dundee schoolboy pulled out a kitchen knife during a fight at an abandoned mansion on the city outskirts, a court has heard.
The sixteen-year-old booted another teenager on the head and spat on his face before brandishing the four-inch blade as he stood over him.
The boy, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, pled guilty to assault at a property identified in the charge only as an abandoned mansion near Grayfaulds Square, Liff, on June 12 last year.
He further admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner, likely to cause fear or alarm, by acting aggressively and standing above his victim with a knife in his hand.
The case will be referred to the children’s panel before the boy returns to court for sentencing next month.
Brawled between two groups
At Forfar Sheriff Court, fiscal depute Stuart Hamilton said a group of young friends were playing at the mansion just before 9pm.
“They noticed a group of four to five males – including the accused – walking towards them.
“One of the older boys, aged 17, walked up to the complainer and challenged him to a fight.”
The pair began brawling, the fiscal depute said.
“During the course of this, the accused went towards the complainer and kicked him once to the head whilst he was lying on the ground.
“He then spat on him before removing a black-handled knife with a 10cm blade from his jumper.”
Mr Hamilton said: “The knife was brandished as the accused stood above the complainer.
“This was witnessed by others. The accused then left the area.”
Lied to police
The court heard the victim told his mother about the attack and showed her video taken by one of the boys on their mobile phone.
When the teenager was charged by police, he told them: “I didn’t have a knife.”
Sheriff Derek Reekie told the youngster: “Given your age and the fact that this was quite clearly a nasty incident, I will remit this case to a children’s panel hearing.”
The findings of the hearing will inform sentencing on April 13.
The boy was released on bail.
