A 57-year-old man was tasered by police following a two-hour stand-off at his home in Burntisland.

Firearms officers were scrambled to Ian Reid‘s property in Landale Gardens on Saturday evening.

Reid brandished knives during the incident, Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court heard.

He appeared from custody and admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner, likely to cause fear or alarm.

Sheriff Timothy Niven-Smith described the incident as “extremely serious” and deferred sentence for reports.

Fiscal depute Catherine Stevenson said the accused had PTSD and contacted NHS24 for help.

Police were deployed due to concerns for his welfare, she said.

Reid met officers at his front door while holding two knives, one in each hand.

“The accused immediately began acting in an aggressive manner,” said Ms Stevenson.

She said Reid told the officers he would harm them.

“The accused continued to shout and swear and refused to desist from this conduct.

“At 9pm police declared a firearms incident and specialist firearms officers were deployed at the locus.

“The accused exited his front door whilst still in possession of the knives.

“He was told to drop them several times but failed to do so.

“He was then tasered by firearms officers and placed under arrest.”

Reid appeared from custody at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court

Reid was initially assessed at a psychiatric hospital but was released to police custody to appear in court.

Solicitor Raymond Wachtel said Reid had issues stemming to a serious car crash several years ago.

He said: “His recollection is that he was not specifically brandishing the knives at officers and was threatening to harm himself.

“He accepts it was possible it was more than that.”

Mr Wachtel said his client served in the army for a year, and was later involved in a car accident in which someone was killed.

“That was not his fault, but he went through a windscreen,” he said.

Reid was remanded in custody.

The 43-year-old was earlier asked to leave the establishment after running out of funds to place further bets.

Football chat

A 64-year-old man was left injured after a conversation about football in a Dundee pub turned violent.

Matthew Johnson wasn’t present at Dundee Justice of the Peace Court when his case called on Tuesday.

He wrote in by letter pleading guilty to assaulting William Tanner in The Pillars Bar, Crichton Street, on November 2 last year.

The Pillars Bar, where the assault occurred.

Johnson, of Queens Buildings in Tayport, admitted attacking Mr Tanner by seizing hold of him and repeatedly punching him on the head.

The attack left Mr Tanner injured.

Fiscal depute Dev Kapadia explained that in his letter admitting the assault, Johnson provided some background.

Mr Kapadia explained that Johnson, 22, had written: “I plead guilty to the offence.”

He added that Johnson claimed Mr Tanner “kept making remarks about the football team I follow” and he “got to the stage I thought (Mr Tanner) was going to attack me.”

Mr Kapadia explained that Johnson wrote he was ashamed and remorseful in the letter.

JP Mike Reid ordered Johnson to be personally present for sentencing.

The first offender must attend to be sentenced on April 4.

A judge also ordered that Logan Summers should be supervised for a further four years and warned that if he failed to comply with licence conditions during that period he could be returned to custody.

Lady Poole told the 20-year-old, from Dundee, that he was being given a chance to rehabilitate and contribute to society and urged him: “Take it.”

Summers earlier admitted 19 charges of sexual abuse and breaches of bail at Dundee Sheriff Court and was sent to the High Court for sentencing. The abuse charges involved 10 girls aged between nine and 15.
