A Dundee woman who tried to set fire to her husband after accusing him of having an affair has been spared prison.
Farah Al-Nuaimi flew into a jealous rage when she heard her husband speaking to another woman on the phone.
The woman turned out to be his daughter from another relationship.
Grabbing a napkin, Al-Nuaimi threatened to “burn the house down” before taking a lighter to his jumper.
Al-Nuaimi, 34, admitted a charge of reckless conduct and assault on January 9 when she appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court.
Sheriff George Way sentenced her to 150 hours unpaid work, as a direct alternative to custody.
He said: “This was a very alarming and potentially dangerous situation.
“She does believe she is not in an abusive relationship, either way.
“Because of the seriousness of what happened there will be an element of unpaid work.”
Al-Nuaimi was also admonished for breaching a bail condition banning her from returning to the Court Street marital home.
Lit napkin
Depute fiscal Sarah High told the court: “The witness and the accused have been married for about one year.
“The complainer received a call from his daughter. He took the call in private in another room.
“She (the accused) became upset and thought he was hiding something from her.”
Later in the evening, Al-Nuaimi’s anger peaked.
Ms High said: “She said she would ‘burn this house down’ and lit a napkin.
“She then threw it on the floor of the living room.
“She then approached the complainer with the lighter.
“She attempted to set his jumper on fire.”
The fiscal depute added: “The complainer attempted to restrain her. He held her on the floor.
“Police were contacted, attended the property and inquiries were carried out.
“She was cautioned and charged and responded to charge one: ‘I did not mean to set the flat on fire. I was angry. He pushed me to do it.’”
