A driver who lost his licence after a 110mph police chase from Glasgow to Dunfermline has been caught back behind the wheel.
Shea Donnelly was jailed in 2019 after he admitted leading cops on a 40-mile high-speed pursuit from Maryhill to Saline.
The 24-year-old appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court this week and pleaded guilty to driving a van while disqualified and without insurance on Bank Street, Lochgelly, on July 25 last year.
Procurator fiscal depute Catherine Stevenson told the court that police on mobile patrol had stopped him after recognising he was a disqualified driver.
Businessman Donnelly was described by his lawyer as “something of an enigma.”
Police pursuit
Glasgow Sheriff Court previously heard that a police helicopter was deployed during the January 2019 police chase.
The pursuit ended at a farm in Saline where Donnelly got out of the car and ran away.
A short time later, he was apprehended by a farmer who took him to police.
The incident unfolded after he failed to pull over the car when asked to do so by police.
His passenger was a then 17-year-old girl who had been reported missing at the time for failing to return home from a friend’s house at New Year.
Donnelly, of Kent Street in Dunfermline, was locked up for a year and given a road ban of three-and-a-half years having pled guilty to dangerous driving.
Accused is hard-working businessman
Dunfermline Sheriff Court heard that Donnelly’s existing disqualification had been due to end next month.
Defence lawyer David McLaughlin said his client was “something of an enigma” as he appears to be an intelligent, hard-working young man who runs a scaffolding business but also has a schedule of previous convictions.
He pointed out there has been no further offending since July 25.
Sheriff Peter Anderson sentenced Donnelly to a further two year road ban and fined him £2000 for driving while disqualified.
He also fined him £150 for driving without insurance.
Donnelly will also have to sit an extended driving test at the end of his ban.
