A university administrator has been fined after his partner made a 12-minute recording of him hurling foul-mouthed abuse at her.
Gary Wright, 48, told a court he “exploded” after returning to his home in Errol, after a day out drinking with friends, and let rip at his girlfriend.
Perth Sheriff Court heard that the woman used her phone to make two, six-minute recordings of him, which she passed on to police.
Fiscal depute David Currie said: “He had been drinking in Edinburgh and returned home and an argument had taken place about a move to Glasgow.
“Matters escalated throughout the evening. The complainer recorded the accused on her phone, making various comments.”
Foul-mouthed rant
Wright was filmed shouting: “I don’t give a f*** what you think – we’re done. You’re ripping our life apart. I hate you, I f***ing hate you.”
Mr Currie told the court: “This was overheard by a third party who decided not to intervene. It continued for some time and the recording lasted for six minutes.
“Matters flared up again. She made another recording. The second recording was very much the same. Both incidents lasted six or seven minutes.”
Wright called his partner “a liar, a bulls*****r and a piece of s***” and the court was told the woman supported the Crown’s decision to prosecute him.
Wright, from Paisley, admitted that on August 27 last year he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting, swearing and acting aggressively towards his partner in Preston Watson Street, Errol, Perthshire.
No excuses
Wright, representing himself, said: “I am not making excuses. I have reflected on it. I lost my mum the year previously and had other family matters.
“Looking back, I can see I was starting to unravel. To be fair to her, she did say to me to try and get some help. I think I convinced myself I was fine.
“We had agreed on a separation. I wasn’t happy about it. For some reason, that weekend it just built-up in my mind and I just exploded.
“It’s over. I don’t want to cause her any more distress. I’ve got a new flat and I’m back working again. I’m trying to move forward and don’t want to cause any more upset.”
Sheriff Gillian Wade fined Wright £200 and told him: “Having an offence on your record at this stage in your life is unfortunate.”
