A serial domestic abuser, dubbed “not very bright” by his own solicitor, has been jailed after threatening to petrol bomb his ex-partner’s flat.

Jamie Taylor, 32, had recently been released from prison on licence from a previous sentence when he was arrested again at the home of a former partner at Lansdowne Court in Dundee.

He had turned up uninvited and made violent threats, including to set the block of flats on fire in January this year.

A sheriff pointed out Taylor has nine previous conviction for domestically aggravated assaults and sexual offences.

Threats

Dundee Sheriff Court heard his former partner had been with friends at home, expecting a take-away, when drunken Taylor knocked at her door.

He had been banned previously from contacting her.

Fiscal depute Michael Dunlop previously told the court the father-of-three was met by another occupant at the door.

Taylor pushed into the flat and said he was going to sit there but after ten minutes, became “irate”.

He made violent threats and told one of his ex-partner’s friends, “let’s take this outside,” adding “go near my bird and I’ll smash you”.

Taylor was removed from the flat but made more threats while banging at the door.

He said he was going to get petrol and bomb the property, then said he would burn the flat.

Police found Taylor lying outside. He called the officers “dafties”.

‘Not the brightest’

Defence solicitor Mike Short explained Taylor was someone who had issues with alcohol.

He said: “I’m not trying to be disrespectful but he’s not the brightest young man.

“Some people should not drink.

“It’s very difficult to get him to say sorry.

“Alcohol is at the root of this behaviour.

“He doesn’t understand that alcohol abuse does not give him the excuse to act like he does.”

‘You have learned nothing’

Taylor, of HMP Perth, admitted acting in a threatening and abusive manner at Lansdowne Court on January 23.

Sentencing Taylor to 15 months in prison – three to make up the unexpired portion of his previous custody spell – Sheriff Alistair Carmichael said: “You pleaded guilty to behaviour including a threat to stab and petrol bomb a house.

“This was a domestically-aggravated attack because it was at the home of your former partner.

“You have nine previous convictions for domestic abuse, as well as sexual offences.

“In my view, you have had several community based orders already and you appear to have learned nothing.”

Laughed while attacking previous victim

In 2021, Taylor was jailed for 20 months after a sustained attack on a woman at another Dundee multi.

He “laughed like a maniac” during an attack on his girlfriend which lasted several hours.

Taylor’s victim let out “blood-curdling” screams as he rained blows on her during the brutal and sustained attack.

Witnesses described overhearing his chilling laughter as he beat up the woman.

She was left with a broken cheek and eye socket and numerous parts of her body were covered in bruises.

She said she had prepared to jump from a fourth floor balcony to escape.
