A man has appeared in court accused of stabbing a worker in an armed robbery attempt at a Dundee convenience store at the weekend.
Barry Jackson appeared in private from custody at Dundee Sheriff Court in connection with an incident at Linlathen Store on Glenconnor Drive.
Papers allege that on April 8, he assaulted Vishal Sood by repeatedly stabbing him on the head and body to his injury, with the intention of robbing him.
It is said he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner by acting aggressively, repeatedly shouting and brandishing a knife towards Mr Sood, who was working at the shop at the time.
The charges state 37-year-old Jackson repeatedly demanded money.
Jackson is also alleged to have possessed a knife as an offensive weapon on Glenconnor Drive that day.
He made no plea during the petition hearing and Sheriff Eric Brown remanded him, pending a further appearance in court due next week.
Police probe
The Courier previously told how the shopkeeper was rushed to hospital at around 8.30am on Saturday.
Police said he suffered an injury to his head and was discharged later the same day.
Residents said a cordon was placed around the business as police probed the incident.
Neighbours living near the newsagent described the events as “scary” and one woman said there had been a heavy police and ambulance presence.
She said: “The family who run the store have been here for a long time.
“There were two ambulances here and then the cordon was put in place.
“It was an extensive cordon.”
