A teenager accused of murdering Perth man Cameron Rae has been fully committed for trial.

Caleb Ferguson was remanded in custody following a second private appearance at Perth Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

He faces allegations he killed Mr Rae by stabbing him repeatedly with a knife or similar weapon at a flat in the city’s South Methven Street earlier this month.

The 18-year-old, who appeared via video link, is further accused of assaulting two people in Mill Street on the same date.

According to court papers, the alleged victims’ identities are unknown to prosecutors.

It is alleged Ferguson punched and kicked them on the head and body.

Ferguson, of Bute Drive, Perth, made no plea during the brief hearing before Sheriff Mark O’Hanlon.

Police investigation

Mr Rae, 20, was found seriously injured in South Methven Street on Saturday April 8.

He was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

Ferguson was arrested the following day and charged with murder on Monday April 10.

A 17-year-old youth was also arrested but was released pending further enquiries.

Friends of Mr Rae held a vigil in his honour at Kinnoull Hill.

They also laid floral bouquets at the city’s Tay Street viewpoint, alongside a banner that read: “Justice4Cammy.”

Mr Rae’s mother told The Courier: “Cameron was a total clown but a good, funny one.

“The whole of Perth is hurting.”

In a post on social media, she said: “Fly high my boy. We were so, so proud of you son.

“I will always love you my wee cheeky Cammy.

“You were just a big lump of fun, always wanting a carry on.”

An online fundraiser has more than tripled its goal of raising £5,000 to give Mr Rae “the best send off”.
