An HMRC worker assaulted his partner and threatened to “slash” her ex-boyfriend, a court has heard.
Sean Reid, 29, appeared from custody at Dundee Sheriff Court, where he admitted assaulting his former girlfriend.
Reid also admitted acting in a threatening and abusive manner while holding a blade in December 2021 at her home on Leith Walk.
The first offender has been on remand since August, after breaching bail conditions ordering him to stay away from his former lover.
Pinned to sofa
Depute fiscal Lynne Mannion told the court Reid appeared from custody on December 22 2021, made no plea and was granted bail.
He appeared again on August 8 2022 and was remanded in custody.
She said the couple had been out to dinner and consumed alcohol on December 20 and continued to drink when they got home.
The complainer woke later “to the accused shouting at her claiming she had cheated on him”.
“He pinned her down on the sofa by the arms.
“She elbowed him to the head.
“She picked up a tablet device. The accused snapped it over his leg.
“He took a knife from the kitchen.
“He showed it to her and threatened to slash the father of her children.”
The police were contacted and Reid left but later handed himself in.
Bail breach
In August – while on bail and forbidden from contacting his victim – Reid was filmed with the accused in Hilltown.
They were seen shouting at each other and the accused was taped pushing the complainer.
The matter was reported to the police and the footage was handed over to them.
Defence solicitor Theo Finlay, in mitigation for Reid, pointed out his client’s period on remand is the the equivalent of a 17-month sentence.
“There’s no suggestion of any injury from the assault.
“She had invited a former partner to drinks. This left him feeling undermined.”
Sheriff Jillian Martin-Brown deferred sentence for reports and granted Reid bail on the condition he does not approach his former girlfriend.
He will return for sentencing on May 31.
