A terrified wife hid from her estranged husband in a golf club car park, as he stalked after her in his pyjamas.
Terry Robinson hunted down his ex, slashed all four of her tyres with a trimming knife and banged on her window as she frantically tried to start her engine.
The 52-year-old, from Blair Atholl, appeared at Perth Sheriff Court and admitted a domestically-aggravated charge of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner, likely to cause fear or alarm, outside Pitlochry Golf Club on April 4.
Sheriff Paul Reid deferred sentence and told Robinson he wanted to “understand the risk” he posed to his former partner.
Under the influence
Fiscal depute Sam Craib said the couple had been together for 16 years.
“The relationship ended in October last year,” he said.
The prosecutor told the court that Robinson’s wife parked up outside the golf course at about 9.15pm and went off to visit a friend.
“About an hour later, she exited the property and walked towards her car,” Mr Craib said.
“She observed that lights were on her and could see the accused standing next to his vehicle.”
The court heard the woman cowered behind a gate while Robinson drove his car towards the lower part of the car park, where she was hiding.
“He appeared to be actively looking for her,” Mr Craib said.
“She could see that the accused was in his pyjamas and she believed that he was under the influence of alcohol.
“When he went past her, she took the opportunity to run back to her car.”
But when Robinson turned and came back towards her, she hid behind a mound of sand.
He then parked his car and was lost to sight.
Car engine failed
Mr Craib said the woman ran into her car.
“She tried to start the engine, but it stalled several times,” he said.
“The accused then appeared at the driver’s window and banged on it with his fist.
“She was terrified and continued driving.”
The woman noticed a problem with the car. She drove on a short distance, got out and noticed that all four tyres had been deflated.
Robinson shouted at her: “Did you sleep with him?”
Mr Craib said the accused’s wife called police.
“Officers attended and saw clear slash marks on her tyres,” he said.
“It was not driveable.
“The accused was traced and made no reply to being cautioned and charged.”
Sheriff Paul Reid deferred sentence for background reports and told Robinson, who represented himself in the dock, that he might want to speak to a lawyer.
“I want to understand what risks there may be going forwards to your estranged wife,” he said.
Robinson, of Garryside, was told the court will consider imposing a non-harassment order when his case calls again on May 31.
