A Dundee woman’s motor industry career is in tatters after she was caught drink-driving in Perth.
Katie Cronin was almost three times the legal limit when she was pulled over by police in the city’s County Place in the early hours of July 10 last year.
The 20-year-old warned officers that she would fail a roadside breath test.
She quit her managerial role immediately following her arrest, Perth Sheriff Court heard.
Cronin was told her actions had put others at risk and was banned from driving for a year.
Roadside breath test
Fiscal depute Andrew Harding said: “At around 2.25am, police on mobile patrol in Perth city centre noticed the accused’s vehicle.
“It was described as being driven erratically.”
He told the court: “Officers activated their blue lights and the vehicle was brought to a stop.
“The accused was observed in the driver’s seat with the engine running.”
When asked to comply with a roadside breath test, she told police: “I’ll fail. I’ve been drinking.”
Cronin was arrested and taken to police HQ.
The station’s intoximeter machine was broken and she had to provide a sample of blood.
‘Misjudgement’
Cronin, of South George Street, Dundee, pled guilty to driving a Renault Clio with excess alcohol (134mgs/ 50).
Solicitor Jim Laverty, defending, said: “Ms Cronin has cooperated fully with police and has pled guilty at the first opportunity.
“She is thoroughly ashamed of herself and I have been asked to apologise to the court on her behalf for her misjudgement.”
Cronin resigned from her job immediately after her arrest, said Mr Laverty.
“She was involved in the motor trade, in a management position,” he said.
“She knew that she could no longer work in that post once these matters came home to roost.”
He added: “It has been cataclysmic for Ms Cronin and she knows this may prevent her from re-entering that industry.”
Sheriff Francis Gill told Cronin: “Drink-driving is a serious offence and you put yourself and other road users at risk of serious harm by your actions.”
She was banned from driving for a year and fined £465.
