An accountant who battered his partner and left her with blurred vision has been ordered to stay away from her for two years.
Rodney Harris, 61, had shared three bottles of wine with the woman before violently turning on her and punching her in the eye.
He then turned against arresting police, calling them Nazis as they removed him from the house in Dornoch Place, Broughty Ferry.
Attack and ‘Nazi’ jibe
Fiscal depute Lynn Mannion told Dundee Sheriff Court the couple had been drinking throughout the day and evening of November 13 2021.
“The accused was intoxicated and became aggressive,” she said.
“He entered the bedroom and threw slippers at her and punched her twice to the left eye.
“It began to bleed.
“Police were contacted.
“He was aggressive towards officers and shouted ‘I’m going to kill you, you Nazis’.
“The complainer was taken to Ninewells Hospital and found to have an abrasion to her eye and she was suffering from blurred vision.”
Solicitor Jim Caird, in mitigation for Harris, previously said: “He is employed as a management accountant.
“He had been out of work but has been able to start again recently.
“He had been in a relationship with the complainer for about 10 years.
“He fully accepts his guilt and is truly ashamed of his actions.”
Sentencing
Harris, who now lives in Dunstable, Bedfordshire, admitted assaulting and injuring the woman by throwing items at her, repeatedly punching her and making threats to kill her.
He also admitted hurling racial slurs at police officers and threatening to kill them.
He has two previous convictions including domestic assault — for which he was admonished in 2019.
Sheriff Jillian Martin-Brown imposed a two-year non-harassment order on Harris to prevent him having any contact with his victim.
He was also placed under supervision for 12 months.
