Dundee man left bloodied wife curled up in a ball after wooden post assault

Yousseff Mohammad will be sentenced later for the sickening attack.

A Dundee woman was left curled-up in a ball, covered in blood, at the hands of her husband after he battered her with a wooden post.

Youseff Mohammad repeatedly struck his partner with the implement, making a sickening “whacking” sound, Dundee Sheriff Court has heard.

Mohammad, originally from Iraq, admitted assaulting the woman during an argument over money at their Hilltown home in September 2021.

She was left on her living room floor with injuries.

Despite this, she did not wish for a court-ordered non harassment order to be served on her attacker, telling police she wanted the relationship with him to continue.

Hit with wooden post

Depute fiscal Eilidh Robertson told the court: “He commuted (at the time) between Dundee and the Netherlands.

“The couple have been married since 2005.

“They were known to each other before, being cousins from Iraq.”

Yousseff Mohammad leaves Dundee Sheriff Court.

She said the couple were in their home and a witness heard them arguing about money.

“The accused picked-up a wooden post.

“He hit his wife with it.”

The witness heard the woman cray and “heard a whacking sound”

He found her “in a ball, with her arms over her face” and Mohammed hit her again.

Reports ordered

Defence solicitor Douglas McConnell, in mitigation, said: “There has been no contact with his wife or son, or children and no breach of bail conditions.

“He no longer works in the Netherlands.

“He was ill and receiving treatment there.”

Mohammad admitted assaulting his wife with a wooden post on September 4 2021 at an address on Hilltown.

Sheriff Mark Thorley deferred sentence on Mohammad, of Arbroath Road, until July 11, and ordered background reports and a restriction of liberty order report.

He also removed one of the bail conditions, allowing him to contact and meet his wife, but not at the family home.
