A Dysart man abused police and firefighters called to a blaze at his home.
Roofer David Williams was drunk after drowning his sorrows following the one-year anniversary of the death of a relative.
The fire service was called to his house in the early hours of the morning.
‘Don’t f***ing David me’
Fiscal depute Michael Robertson told Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court: “At around 4.07am Thomas Stafford, a watch commander with the Scottish Fire and Rescue, and his crew were dispatched to a house fire.
“On arrival at the locus he was approached by a female who told him that the occupant – the accused – was highly intoxicated and had fallen asleep whilst heating food.
“He observed the accused at the window, shouting and swearing, and requested police attend.
“At 4.20am Mr Stafford entered the property.
“Whilst speaking to officers, the accused was still at the window shouting and swearing.
“Officers attended at the front door and attempted to engage with the accused.
“An officer tried to reason with the accused and said the accused’s name, at which he screamed ‘Don’t f***ing “David” me’.
“He attempted to square up to the officer and was quickly restrained on the floor.
“Prior to leaving the locus he slipped the handcuffs and when trying to reapply he tensed his arms.”
Tragedy
Williams’ defence agent said his client had been drinking that day.
“Tragically his cousin had died and this occurred on the first year anniversary of it.
“He and others got together to drink.
“That’s not a normal feature of his life.
“Unfortunately he’s fallen asleep, there’s been a fire, people who came to help and he’s reacted in this manner.
“He regrets his behaviour.”
Williams, of Cook Street, Dysart, admitted behaving in a threatening and abusive manner at his home address on July 23 last year.
He further admitted resisting three police officers.
A plea of not guilty to a charge of assaulting or resisting a firefighter was accepted by the Crown.
Sheriff James Williamson deferred sentence for three months for Williams to be of good behaviour.
