A 35-year-old Dunfermline drink driver was caught after McDonald’s drive-thru staff raised the alarm.
Connor McIntyre, of Fodbank View, was nearly three times the legal limit at the time of the offence on February 27.
Procurator fiscal depute Catherine Stevenson told Dunfermline Sheriff Court that police were made aware by staff at the Fife leisure park McDonald’s restaurant of a man suspected to be under the influence.
The car was stopped by police in Sanderling Way.
Officers reported smelling alcohol on the driver and that he was slurring his words.
Defence lawyer David McLaughlin said his client had been drinking the night before and went to bed but regrettably drove to the takeaway.
McIntyre, a roofer, previously pled guilty to the drink driving charge and appeared in court for sentencing.
Sheriff Peter Anderson banned McIntyre from driving for 16 months and fined him £400.
80-year-old allegedly robbed
A man has appeared in court in connection with an alleged robbery of an 80-year-old woman in Dundee.
Jason White, 33, appeared in private before Sheriff Gregor Murray on Wednesday.
He made no plea and his motion for bail was refused.
Remanded in custody, White is expected to make a follow-up appearance at the same court next week.
It is alleged he robbed a woman in Stobswell, close to the Greens of Dundee Supermarket on Albert Street on Monday.
The alleged victim, is understood to be in a critical condition at Ninewells.
Shadow boxing killers sentenced
A savage knife attacker who murdered a Dundee father-of-two in a botched robbery bid at the victim’s home has been jailed for life.
Thomas Henderson was ordered to serve at least 18 years in prison for the slaying of Lee Small at Ballindean Terrace.
A judge told Henderson that any future decision to release him would be for the parole authorities, but added: “You will only ever be released if you are deemed to pose no risk to the public.”
Henderson, 31, had earlier admitted murdering Mr Small, 40, on September 2, 2021, at his home. The High Court in Dundee heard how the victim was punched and stabbed in the neck in an attempted robbery to gain money.
His accomplice Michael King, 29, was jailed for 10 years and nine months for his part in the fatal attack.
King had originally faced a murder allegation but pleaded guilty to killing the victim in a lesser charge of culpable homicide.
Dangerous speeds
A Carnoustie driver caught the attention of police when he hit “grossly” high speeds in Angus.
Alex Valente appeared in the dock at Forfar Sheriff Court to admit driving dangerously and failing to stop for police on May 11.
The 21-year-old was travelling on the A92 between Arbroath and Dundee, near Mains of Kelly and Salmond’s Muir, when he was spotted by officers.
First offender Valente travelled at “grossly excessive speed” as he overtook multiple preceding vehicles, including a stationary police car.
He failed to stop for officers and left the dual carriageway “expeditiously” before continuing at speed.
As Valente, of Carlogie Road, continued, he entered an open right hand bend at maximum limit and narrowly avoided a pedestrian.
Sheriff Garry Sutherland ordered reports and deferred sentencing until July 13.
Riding school rapist jailed
A former King’s horseman who raped three young trainee instructors at a Fife riding school has been jailed for 10 years.
James Armour struck while on leave from military duty in the 1980s.
The now 57 year-old escaped justice for decades until one victim bravely reported her ordeal to Rape Crisis in 2019, and then the police.
This sparked a probe into abuse of the girls at the Dunvegan Equestrian Centre in Newburgh.
Armour was sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow.
Prison plea
A light-fingered Fifer has been granted his wish of imprisonment after admitting his toils with living at liberty.
Darren White appeared at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court and asked for a jail sentence after he stole from shops around the Levenmouth area and threatened a store employee.
On December 12 last year, White stole £116 worth of booze from Sainsbury’s in Leven, which has never been recovered.
When he was followed to the door by employee David Methven and asked to return the drink, White said: “Get out the way or I’ll f***ing slash you.”
He also stole from Leven’s B&M Bargains, pilfering £256.13 worth of items on January 5 and another £160.99 worth of stock six days later.
White also nabbed £38.38 worth of food from the McColls store on Wellesley Road in Methil on January 10.
He returned to the shop eight days later to purloin a packet of cakes, valued at £2.79.
His solicitor David McLaughlin said: “He’s 39. He’s got an extensive history of this sort of thing.
“He isn’t someone known to carry weapons. It’s an alarming comment.
“He’s someone who needs to dry out. At the very least, he’s aware of that.
“He’s come to court, he’s co-operated with the system.”
Sheriff Timothy Niven-Smith said: “This is tragic.
“There is no alternative, a custodial sentence will be imposed.”
White, of Ivy Grove in Methilhill, was jailed for 136 days.
