A jilted boyfriend pinned his partner to the floor in a “terrifying” assault that left her gasping for breath.
Robbie Webster attacked his girlfriend and told her: “I’ll show you what an abuser is.”
The 23-year-old lashed out after being told the relationship was over, Perth Sheriff Court heard.
He appeared in the dock and admitted a charge of domestic assault at his then home in Catmoor Avenue, Scone.
Jumped over gate to reach partner
Fiscal depute Sam Craib said the couple had been in a relationship for about two years.
“About two weeks before the offence, the complainer informed the accused that she no longer wanted to continue the relationship and asked him to leave,” he said.
“However, he had nowhere to go and was committed to remaining at the property.”
The court heard that the girlfriend raised the topic once more on the morning of October 18, 2021.
“She informed him again that she wanted to end the relationship,” said Mr Craib.
“She moved into the hallway as she was telling him this.
“Immediately, he stood up and ran towards the hallway.
“He jumped over a child gate that was across the doorway, and grabbed the complainer.”
Webster threw her to the ground and pinned her down.
“He was holding his weight on top of her,” said the fiscal depute.
“She was terrified, panicked and was struggling to breath.”
She told Webster to “stop” and get off.
Mr Craib said: “After a short time, he let go of her and got up.
“She called him an abuser and ran into the bathroom and locked the door.”
Wesbter told her: “I’ll show you what an abuser is.”
Victim left ‘hyperventilating’
His girlfriend ran out of the bathroom and into the living room.
“The accused grabbed her hair and pulled it down hard,” said Mr Craib.
“He let go, then slapped her to the face with an open palm.”
The court heard the girlfriend was crying, shaking and hyperventilating.
She sent a text to her friend, who arrived a short time later to escort her from the property.
Bail breach
The court heard that Webster also broke bail conditions when he was with his girlfriend in Asda on March 30, 2022.
Mr Craib said the victim had not wanted the court to impose a non-harassment order.
Solicitor Paul Ralph, defending, said: “They are not together, but what’s going to happen in the future I cannot say.”
Sheriff John MacRitchie told Webster that, because of his young age, his sentence should focus on rehabilitation rather than punishment.
“This must have been a particularly distressing incident,” he said.
Webster, of Fortingall Place, Perth, was placed on a six-month structured deferred sentence and told to engage with the Right Track programme for young offenders.
