A woman has told a trial she saw a naked man at the side of the A9 “gyrating” and “waggling his bits” in her direction.
The retail worker said she was left “shocked, surprised and slightly bemused” by the early morning spectacle on the hard shoulder of the motorway, between Perth and Luncarty.
The 48-year-old told Perth Sheriff Court the man maintained eye contact as she travelled past, on the opposite side of the road.
Fife man Paul Connor is on trial accused of three counts of intentionally exposing his genitals for others to see, without their consent, at locations on the A9 and M90.
The 56-year-old denies all charges.
‘Something caught my eye’
A witness, who cannot be identified, told the trial she had been travelling to work at Marks and Spencers’ Inveralmond store just before 6am on August 1 2022.
“I was travelling south when something caught my eye.
“I looked across to the northbound carriageway and there was a person by the side of the road.”
She said: “The thought went through my head: ‘Is that person naked?’
“I thought ‘no, he can’t be’ but I looked again and I could see that he was.”
The woman said: “He walked around the front of a silver vehicle and he began gyrating and waggling his bits directly at me.
“It was quite fleeting as I was driving past.”
She added: “He had moved around from the passenger side, round to the front of the car.
“It was the movement that caught my eye – and the fact he wasn’t wearing anything.”
The witness said: “It was definitely directed at me, because there was direct eye contact.
“At least that’s how I felt.
“I was a bit shocked, surprised and a little bemused by what happened.
She told fiscal depute Elizabeth Hodgson she continued on to work.
“I wasn’t sure if I should report it,” she told the court.
“It was when I read a report about it in The Courier, asking for witnesses, that I came forward.”
She told police the man had a “gingery beard” and said he was “not super skinny and not fat.”
Tattoo
Another witness told the trial he had been travelling to work on the M90 – between 5.30am and 6am – when he spotted a naked man at the roadside.
”As I joined the motorway, I saw a car pulling over before the Craigend junction,” he said.
The 37-year-old said the driver stepped out of the car with no clothes on.
“He started masturbating while making eye contact,” he said.
He described the car as a silver 4×4.
He said the man was about 6ft, bald and aged between 40 and 50.
Solicitor David Holmes, representing Connor, said that his client has a tattoo on his chest, but the witness had told police he did not have any such markings.
“In all honesty, I wouldn’t have been focused on his chest area,” he said.
Connor, of Memorial Road, Methil, denies that he exposed his naked penis “in a sexual manner” and gyrated it towards the female witness on the A9 between Perth and Luncarty.
It is alleged he exposed himself to another woman at the same location while “holding his penis in his hand”.
He is further accused of exposing himself and masturbating towards the male witness between junction nine and 10 of the M90, on the same day.
He denies all three charges.
The trial before Sheriff William Wood continues.
