A banned motorist who ditched a stolen car after a police chase was caught after officers found a receipt in the vehicle.
The Tool Station receipt was linked to the account of Aiden Paterson.
The 23-year-old appeared at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court to admit reset of the vehicle and driving whilst disqualified.
The Volkswagen Golf was stolen and was being driven on cloned plates.
Police chase
Fiscal depute Catherine Stevenson told the court the vehicle was spotted driving into Fife.
She said: “Between February 28 and March 1, a grey Volkswagen Golf was stolen from an address in Port Seton.
“Police received information it was travelling on cloned registration plates to an address in West Yorkshire.
“At 11.02am on March 15, the vehicle was spotted driving south on the Tay Road Bridge into Fife.
“A short time later, it was intercepted by marked police vehicle, before failing to stop and being lost to sight.
“An area search was carried out and the vehicle was located at a road at Drum Park near Lower Largo, where it had been abandoned.
“The vehicle was recovered, and a Tool Station receipt was playing in the vehicle.
“Enquiries were made by the police and the purchase at Tool Station was all from an account in the name of the accused.”
Jailed and banned
Solicitor Martin Maguire, defending, said his client had been given the use of the vehicle by a friend.
He said Paterson had gone to Tool Station to purchase a padlock for a secure storage unit.
He said: “On March 14 he was offered a vehicle by a friend.
“He made no enquiries as to the source of the vehicle.”
He added the accused was disqualified from driving in December 2022.
Paterson, of Leven Road, Kennoway, admitted, resetting a motor vehicle at Tool Station, Glenrothes on March 14 this year.
He further admitted driving while disqualified.
Not guilty pleas to fraudulently driving on cloned plates and driving without insurance were accepted by the Crown.
He was jailed for 60 days and banned from driving for six months.
