Forth Road Bridge YouTube daredevil ‘done’ with antics after death warning

A YouTube daredevil who scaled the Forth Road Bridge says he is “done” with such illegal antics after being fined for the stunt by a sheriff.

Ally Law, 26, was previously found guilty of breaching the peace by climbing the 500ft North Tower of the structure in the early hours of July 16 2020.

Law’s ascent was filmed to rack up views on YouTube, a platform where he has about 3.5 million subscribers.

He appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court for sentencing.

Two other men in Law’s party, Stephen Sinclair and Christopher Allsopp, previously admitted culpably and recklessly climbing and descending the structure and were each fined £1,600.

‘Concerning and frightening’

Sheriff Charles Macnair told him: “Climbing structures of this sort is dangerous, even for those who are trained in climbing.”

The sheriff said one of the other men there was behaving “extremely recklessly” and seen on a video running, unattached, down the cable of the Forth Road Bridge, towards Law.

Sheriff Macnair continued: “He managed to stop in time but had he slipped or misjudged, he would have collided with you and, in my view, it’s highly likely both of you would have fallen to your deaths.

“(For) anyone watching that it would have been a very concerning and frightening experience”.

Law, formerly of Southampton but now living in Dubai, was fined £1,300.

Sheriff Macnair also made a five-year antisocial behaviour order forbidding him climbing the exterior of any artificial structure without written permission of its owner.

Last month, he was ordered to surrender his passport because he previously jetted off to Dubai instead of completing court-ordered background reports.

Representing himself in court, he had indicated he will be paying the fine as soon as possible to ensure the return of the document.

After his sentencing, Law told reporters outside court he would be “looking to stay out of trouble” and is now “done” with all the illegitimate stunts and “problems that come with them”.

Trial

Law had denied a charge of culpable and reckless conduct but was convicted of an alternative charge of breaching the peace.

He had argued he was an able climber with more than a decade of experience and had ascended the bridge in the early hours when no members of the public were there.

But police were called to the bridge at 4.45am and the group, initially spotted by men in a repair van, were arrested shortly after returning to the ground.

History of illegal stunts

Law hit the headlines in 2018 when he and another person broke into the Celebrity Big Brother House.

He is banned from all UK theme parks after breaking into Thorpe Park to scale rollercoasters at night.

Two years ago, he posted a video outlining his entire criminal history.

In recent years he has been involved in various dangerous and brazen stunts.

He paddle-boarded across a famous Welsh aqueduct, snuck in and spent a night in the National Theatre and allegedly managed to get a Premier League match involving his local side suspended by flying a drone over St Mary’s Stadium.

He has also been reprimanded in the dock for scaling the Severn Bridge and the Tyne Bridge.
