A drug dealer claimed the money made from the illicit trade was actually cash saved to purchase tickets for T in the Park.
Sheriff Lindsay Foulis dismissed that claim as teenager Peter Alexander appeared in the dock at Perth Sheriff Court.
He ordered the 19-year-old to forfeit the £490 seized during a drugs raid in May last year in which almost £400 of cannabis was found.
Officers with a drug search dog visited two properties in Perth and found caches of drugs – amounting to 40 grammes – in a property in Leslie Court.
They also found money and a mobile telephone which the police tech support unit examined, revealing numerous text messages related to the supply of cannabis.
Solicitor Pauline Cullerton objected to seizure of the money, saying: “His position is that he had been saving money to pay for tickets for T in the Park.”
Sheriff Foulis retorted “So he says” before adding: “Given what I have heard and your guilty plea are you really still banging that drum?”
He said the guilty plea, the amount of drugs discovered and “strong evidence” of drug supply, a community disposal was not an appropriate disposal.
Alexander, of Leslie Court, admitted being concerned in the supply of cannabis at addresses in Leslie Court and Gilsay Place on May 27 last year and was sentenced to six months in detention.
Friend, Josh McGregor, 19, of Viewfield Place, admitted possession of small amounts of cocaine and ecstasy at an address in Gilsay Place on May 24 and was fined £500.
