A heavily intoxicated Kinross man used a wheelie bin to try and batter through the boarded-up windows of a house as he screamed threats at its occupants.
Powerfully-built Ryan Warden swung the bin time and again at the wooden covers as his target and a friend cowered within.
When that did not work, neighbours saw him batter and flail at the windows with his fists, leaving him so badly injured he required an operation on his hands.
Perth Sheriff Court heard the 27-year-old had suffered with alcohol and drug issues but that the incident had helped him to see the light.
Depute Fiscal Carol Whyte said the complainer had been within his home watching television with a friend when Warden arrived outside on September 2.
She said. “A neighbour described the accused as ‘screaming’ and repeatedly attempting to entice the complainer outside. He was also repeatedly kicking the door and threatening to kill him.
“The windows were boarded-up at the time so the accused picked up a wheelie bin and began hitting the timber boarding with it.
“He then began punching the timber boarding to such an extent that it was dislodged.”
Warden picked up the wheelie bin again and attempted to throw it through the gaping hole in the house.
Police were called Warden was gone and was later found at his home.
The court was told Warden had to undergo an operation on his hands to repair the damage caused by his attack on the house and had missed two weeks of work as a result.
Warden, of Bowton Road, admitted behaving in a threatening and abusive manner in the town’s Mill Street.
Solicitor David Holmes said his client was “now on the right road” despite his “lengthy record and many ups and downs”.
Sheriff Lindsay Foulis said: “Sadly there is no indication there has been any change in your behaviour.
“You cannot behave like this. People should not have to put with this nonsense.”
He jailed Warden for six months.
