A man has been jailed for attacking his partner’s ex with a saw.
Barry Stewart needed hospital treatment and was left permanently scarred after Steven Sinclair, 36, dragged the blade across his hand while he was trying to shield himself.
The pair came to blows after Sinclair drove while disqualified to the home of Mr Stewart’s former partner in Auchterarder to confront him.
Perth Sheriff Court heard Sinclair had driven from his mother’s home after hearing Mr Stewart was at the door.
Depute fiscal Clare Kennedy said the violence escalated when Sinclair got to the property around 3.30pm.
“The accused arrived in a car, parked it outside and walked up to the complainer shouting ‘get away from my Mrs’,” she said.
“There was an altercation and the accused then walked back to the car and returned with a bow saw.
“He attempted to hit the complainer on the side of the body with the saw. The complainer put his hand up to defend himself and grabbed the blade of the saw.
“The accused pulled the blade back, which cut the fingers on his hand. The complainer was bleeding heavily and attended PRI for stiches. It was noted that this was likely to cause permanent scarring.”
Solicitor John McLaughlin said Sinclair had been working at his mother’s house when his partner called him to say Stewart was at the door.
He said Sinclair initially advised the woman to ignore him but when he received a second call from his mother in law, advising him to return home, he took action.
Mr McLaughlin said Sinclair had only taken the saw when he got out of the car as he was intending to use it in the house.
Sinclair, of Reid Place, Crieff, admitted assaulting Mr Stewart by hitting him with the saw at The Fues, Auchterarder on August 10.
He also admitted driving while disqualified and without insurance on the same date and place.
Sheriff Gillian Wade jailed him for six months and banned him from the road for a year.
