A Dundee salesman has been jailed after his massive collection of child abuse images was found on a USB stick and handed to police.
Scott Angus’s home was raided by police in June.
A USB stick found below his bedroom window was given to the officers.
Forensic experts later found thousands of child abuse pictures and videos on the drive – as well as on tablet computers and mobile phones.
Children’s charity NSPCC said it was “entirely right” Angus had been sent to prison.
Angus has since been sacked from his job selling homes in a development in Monifieth.
He had 2,709 still images and 386 videos in total.
The court heard it would take more than 35 hours to view all of the movie files.
Of these, 211 were graded category A, regarded the most depraved level.
Depute fiscal Eilidh Robertson said Angus had previous convictions for drink-driving and soliciting prostitutes.
She said: “Around 7.35am on June 6 police officers attended the accused’s home.
“A search was commenced with a number of electronic items seized.”
She added that while the search was under way a USB stick was found lying in the garden underneath the accused’s bedroom window and this was handed to the police.
“Forensic computer examiners examined the devices recovered and indecent images of children were found on six devices seized, including the USB stick,” she said.
Angus, 51, of Mid Road, Dundee, admitted downloading indecent images of children between August 13 2015 and June 4 this year, and possessing indecent images on June 6 this year at his home.
Sheriff Alastair Carmichael jailed him for eight months and placed him on the sex offenders register for 10 years.
The sheriff told Angus: “There is no alternative to a custodial sentence.”
