A Dundee man has been accused of crashing his partner’s car at a roundabout on the city’s Arbroath Road.
Craig Maiden, 32, pleaded not guilty to three driving offences said to have been committed in the early hours of New Year’s Day.
Maiden appeared from custody at Dundee Sheriff Court on Tuesday morning, limping and covered in bruises with a splint on his left wrist.
He denied all three allegations levelled against him and will stand trial at Dundee Sheriff Court in April.
It is alleged on January 1 on Arbroath Road Maiden drove a silver Vauxhall Corsa without a driving test certificate.
Maiden is further accused of failing to identify himself to police on the same date, at around 12.55am following a road traffic incident.
He has also been charged with failing to provide an alcohol breath specimen to police on the same date.
Maiden, of Fairhurst Walk, will face trial on April 5, with a further intermediate diet set for March 15.
The court heard the car, which is more than ten years old, did not belong to the accused but that he was insured to drive it.
Officers from Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue and paramedics from the Scottish Ambulance Service raced to the scene of the alleged incident on the early hours of New Year’s Day.
Police confirmed a man at the scene had been checked over by ambulance staff at the time. Scottish Fire and Rescue officers were required to make the scene safe following the incident.
A spokesperson for the service said: “We received a call at 1.03am to attend at the Scott Fyffe Roundabout. Two appliances were dispatched and one occu[pant was removed from a vehicle and passed to the Scottish Ambulance Service.
“We made the scene safe and the incident was then passed over to Police Scotland.”
Hogmanay revellers reported seeing a hive of flashing lights on Arbroath Road as they made their way home, with some diverting their homeward journeys to avoid any potential tailbacks.
