The botched roll-out of iPads in criminal courts has cost the taxpayer £1m, it has been claimed.
Prosecutors at Perth and Falkirk sheriff courts were handed the devices as part of a pilot five years ago in a bid to make the justice system more efficient.
The aim was for the scheme to go live across the nation by the end of 2013.
But a series of delays means the national roll-out may not be completed for another year.
The cost has tripled to £1m since the pilot was announced with delays forcing the prosecution service to sell back tablets to suppliers at a loss, according to the Sunday Mail.
Scottish Liberal Democrat justice spokesperson Liam McArthur said: “This project has stuttered from one hurdle to the next.
“Modernising procedures and cutting back on undue paperwork is a laudable goal but public bodies also have a duty to the taxpayer to ensure that limited resources are not wasted.”
A Crown Office spokesman said: “We expect to complete the national roll-out by the end of March 2019, with detailed roll-out implementation work commencing from April 2018.”
