A Methil man who left his ex-partner permanently disfigured after smashing a glass door panel into her face has avoided being jailed.
Terry Wilson appeared at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court where he was ordered to carry 225 hours of unpaid work in 12 months.
The 27-year-old was also ordered to attend a domestic violence group work programme for a period of two years after pleading guilty to two charges.
He launched the vicious attack on his ex-partner Catherine MacKay at an address in Kennoway on December 17.
He admitted acting in a threatening and abusive manner by shouting, swearing, throwing a telephone and a chair before kicking a door.
Wilson confessed to culpably and recklessly punching a window in a door while Ms McKay was standing behind it.
The glass panel shattered and struck her in the face to her severe injury and permanent disfigurement.
Sheriff James Williamson warned him he would go to jail for 18 months if he breached the community payback order.
He said: “You need to understand that you have come very close to receiving a period in custody and for a very long time.
“The attitude you displayed in the Criminal Justice Social Work reporter was not the best.
“If you breach the order you will go to prison for 18 months. I’m tired of people accepting the orders only to find them coming back in three months time without it being done.
“You have one opportunity to do it – one breach takes you to prison.”
He asked for details of the woman’s disfigurement but was told they were unavailable.
Defence solicitor Rebecca Cross told the court Wilson had previously been in full-time employment as a labourer but had broken his elbow in February which required surgery.
She added: “He fully accepts the effect his actions would have had on the complainer and the children within the property.”
She said that her client wanted the opportunity to work on his “anger management” outside of prison.
