A blacksmith sharpened his knife before turning up at his former lover’s home to kill her, Perth Sheriff Court heard.
Willie Smith, 66, got into the woman’s Blairgowrie home and told her: “We are both going to die tonight – you first and then me.”
He told her that he had just sharpened the knife, and then slashed at her, coming close enough to rip her jumper open.
The woman fled and locked herself in the bathroom, from where she made a 999 call.
She swerved past Smith as he entered the bathroom, and fled her Blairgowrie home.
Neighbours tried to intervene. Police sprayed him with incapacitant but it failed to have any effect.
The woman suffered a broken finger.
Smith, of Babcock Crescent, Carsie, admitted having a knife and threatening to kill the woman at her home on February 9.
He admitted chasing her through the house, cutting her clothing, and severely injuring her. He also admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by holding the knife against his own body.
Smith was remanded in custody after making no motion for bail, and sentence was deferred for the preparation of reports until next month.
