A 22-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with attempted murder in connection with an incident involving a baby in Arbroath.
She is due to appear at court in Forfar on Friday.
Police say the six-month-old girl suffered “serious injuries” on or around April 28.
Detective Inspector Scott Fotheringham said a joint child protection investigation was being carried out by Police Scotland, the NHS and social workers.
He added: “A report will be submitted to the Crown Office and procurator fiscal service and the woman is expected to appear at Forfar Sheriff Court on Friday May 11.
“The baby remains in a serious condition in hospital.”
