A roofer who jumped on the bonnet of a car following a breakfast bust up with his former partner gave a ‘Mary Poppins’ style answer when spoken to by the police.
Alan Adsley appeared at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court on Tuesday where he faced a charge of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner.
The 36-year-old was arrested following the blazing row at Rejects department store in Kirkcaldy on March 23.
When cautioned and charged following the incident, which took place in front of a young baby, Adsley replied: “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious – my car was f****** stolen.”
The court heard how the couple had argued during breakfast at the store before leaving and getting into a car parked outside.
Depute fiscal Mina Poppius told how the baby was placed in the front seat of the vehicle whilst the former partner got into the back passenger seat.
She then locked the door and refused to let Adsley in prompting the roofing business owner to shout, swear and repeatedly strike the car with his hands.
The woman then climbed into the driver’s seat and tried to drive away before Adsley jumped onto the bonnet of the car which belonged to his cousin.
He was traced by police officers a short time later and gave the Disney inspired response.
Defence solicitor Scott McKenzie told the court how the couple had a volatile relationship which has since ended but they maintained contact for the benefit of the baby.
He also told how Adsley had spent 15 years in the army and investigations were being carried out to determine if he was suffering from PTSD.
Mr McKenzie also produced a letter from the former partner where she accepted that she “does provoke a reaction” from Adsley.
Sheriff Grant McCulloch said: “I do not accept that there was provocation during this incident however it was a two way argument. But you went too far.”
He handed Adsley, of Blackcraigs in Kirkcaldy, a £600 fine which was discounted due to his early guilty plea.
