A Fife woman is to stand trial accused of carrying out a catalogue of abuse against elderly residents at a Kirkcaldy care home.
Jane Craig has been charged with ill-treating or wilfully neglecting five pensioners at the Chapel Level Nursing Home between May 2015 and January 2016.
The 59-year-old’s case called at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court on Tuesday but she did not appear in person.
Defence solicitor David Cranston told Sheriff Alison McKay that Craig was pleading not guilty to the charge and asked for a trial date to be set.
Craig faces one charge under the Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act relating to the personal welfare of five pensioners.
She allegedly failed to comply with techniques presented for manual handling of patients and in respect of one woman, seized her by the body and pushed her.
She is also accused of roughly pulling another woman’s trousers and pushing her on the body.
Craig, of Kirkland Gardens in Kirkcaldy, is also charged with pointing her finger in the same woman’s face and shouting at her.
The carer is also accused of grabbing two other pensioners by the body and turning them over seizing hold of another woman’s nightdress before pulling it up.
She is then accused of seizing the senior citizen on the body and turning her over.
Craig was ordered to appear at the court again for an intermediate diet on September 12 before standing trial on September 27.
The 60-bed home, which provides dementia, nursing and residential care, is owned by Darlington-based HC-One group which has over 300 care homes across the UK.
A spokesperson for HC-One said:“The health, safety and wellbeing of our Residents will always be our number one priority.
“We have detailed safeguarding procedures in place, including a well-publicised independent whistle blowing hotline, and will always act appropriately to protect Residents when concerns are raised.
“We are proud the Care Inspectorate gave the home a ‘good’ rating for its care and leadership earlier this year, and we continue to strive every day to fulfil our mission of providing the best and kindest care to Residents.”
