Dundee dealer found with stun gun lying around home during drug-fuelled party

Dundee Sheriff Court.

A man found with a taser stun gun has been jailed for a year after claiming he only had it because he wanted his friend to blast him with it.

Police turned up at Graeme Duncan’s door in Dundee’s Kinghorne Road after reports of a disturbance.

They forced entry and found a drug-fuelled party going on.

Duncan was found with ÂŁ290-worth of cocaine that he had been selling to friends at the gathering, as well as the prohibited firearm.

His lawyer told a court the weapon had been brought along previously by a friend of Duncan’s because he had “never seen one” and “wanted to try it to see what it was like”.

Duncan allowed his friend to blast him with the stun gun before leaving it lying in his living room until police turned up on June 9.

Fiscal depute Charmaine Gilmartin told Dundee Sheriff Court: “Cocaine was found when police entered with a total value of £290.

“One witness told the police that the accused had sold her a gram for £100.

“The stun gun was found to be in working order, with sparks visible when it was activated.”

Duncan, 39, a prisoner at HMP Perth, pled guilty to being concerned in the supply of cocaine and possessing a Taser.

Defence solicitor Ross Bennett said: “A friend had brought the stun gun along a few weeks earlier. He had heard of them but never seen one and he wanted to try it and see what it was like.

“His friend administered it to the left of his torso. He said it was a shock that made you recoil and nothing more than that.

“It sat in his house and he had no other need for it. It was foolish for him to retain it.”

Sheriff Lorna Drummond QC jailed Duncan for a year and said: “The drugs offence is serious given your record.”
