A Fife man who pushed a five-year-old child along a pavement while shouting and swearing at him has been jailed for 16 months.
Aaron Chrystal appeared at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court where he pleaded guilty to shouting and swearing at the youngster, who cannot be named for legal reasons, on May 17.
He also admitted approaching the young boy’s parents and making “alarming remarks” about their children in the street in Kirkcaldy.
Chrystal, a prisoner at Perth, accepted he had uttered threats of violence at a supermarket and had tried to hit a police officer in the face with handcuffs whilst being arrested.
Depute fiscal Ronnie Hay told the court: “The child’s parents had picked him up from nursery at approximately 3.30pm. They then drove a short distance.”
The court heard that when the parents were getting their other children out of the car they asked the boy to stand on the pavement.
But while the father was taking a buggy out of the boot “it came to his attention that the boy wasn’t where he was a minute ago.”
Mr Hay added: “The adult witness looked up and saw that the boy was approximately 10m-12m from the car and that he was being pushed by Aaron Chrystal.
“The father immediately said ‘what the **** are you doing’ and Mr Chrystal left the scene.
“The boy was upset and kept saying ‘bad man’. The family decided to cancel what they were doing and were in a state of shock.”
Chrystal approached the family again a short while later in a car park and a confrontation took place.
