A man has appeared in court on a charge of disfiguring a doctor in an attack at an Angus health centre.

David Gibson, of Montrose, appeared in private at Forfar Sheriff Court on Wednesday following an incident at the Links Health Centre late on Tuesday afternoon.

The 42-year-old faces a number of charges in relation to the incident which led to a major police response at the Frank Wood Way practice shortly before 5pm.

The petition alleges Gibson behaved in a threatening or abusive manner and was in possession of a blade.

He is also charged with assault to injury and disfigurement.

Gibson made no plea or declaration when he appeared from custody before Sheriff Gregor Murray.

He was committed for further examination and remanded, with a further court appearance expected within eight days.

Several police units rushed to the centre around 4.45pm following reports of a disturbance there.

The nature of the blade involved has not been disclosed.

A witness said the GP involved had escaped serious injury.

The incident was contained and police said there was no risk to the public.

Staff members remained within the centre for some time, and police were also at the scene for several hours as part of the investigation.

Inspector Steve Rose of Police Scotland had thanked members of the public for their “cooperation and patience” during the incident.
