An Angus man who broke his ex-partner’s jaw because he had lost a pair of jeans was put behind bars yesterday.
Shaun Curran, 24, of Emislaw Drive, Arbroath was told he faces a jail term “measured in years” following the assault on Jasmin Valentine.
The pair had split up but continued living together until Ms Valentine’s new property was ready for her to move in to.
On August 5 last year an argument broke out because a pair of Curran’s jeans was missing.
Fiscal depute Charmaine Gilmartin told Dundee Sheriff Court Ms Valentine playfully told Curran to “shut up” but that “enraged” him.
He punched her twice in the stomach causing her to double over and vomit, and threatened to throw her down the stairs.
She said: “She couldn’t move and he grabbed her hair. She was unable to shake him off. He let her drop to the floor and punched her full force twice then dragged her.
“He punched her on the cheek and she was spitting blood. On seeing this he immediately became apologetic.”
The court heard Ms Valentine did not report the incident to police until August 14. She went to hospital the following day and was found to have a fractured jaw.
Curran pleaded guilty to a charge of assault to severe injury committed on August 5 2017 at his home address.
Sheriff Alastair Brown deferred sentence until next month and remanded him in custody.
He said: “For an exceptionally serious assault, what other than a prison sentence to be measured in years would be in any way appropriate?”
