A teenager has been charged in connection with the alleged murder of a man who died in Dundee city centre hours into the New Year.
A 19-year-old man is expected to appear at Dundee Sheriff Court on Friday.
In another significant development, police say they are now “confident” they know the identity of the man who died.
He was rushed to hospital following the large-scale disturbance near the main taxi rank in the Nethergate but sadly could not be saved.
Mystery had surrounded his identity, and police had issued a number of appeals for information.
He was said to be in his 40s or 50s. He was wearing a two-tone light and dark blue Berghaus rain jacket, faded denim jeans and dark brown shows, as well as a “distinctive” Cartier watch studded with gold at the time of his death.
Police say further details will be released once his next of kin have been informed.
Detective Inspector Ross Fitzgerald said: “I’d like to thank the public for providing information to us so far.
“Our enquiries remain ongoing and we continue to follow positive lines of enquiry in relation to other people involved in the incident. I would urge any witnesses who haven’t already spoken to police to come forward.
